Detailed Itinerary —14 Days Best of Uganda & Rwanda Safari

Day 1: Arrival in Entebbe – Transfer to Hotel

Upon arrival at Entebbe International Airport, you are met by your driver-guide and transferred to your hotel. The rest of the day is for relaxation after your long flight. Dinner and overnight in Entebbe.

Day 2: Drive to Murchison Falls via Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary

After breakfast, you set off north toward Murchison Falls National Park. A stop at Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary allows you to track rhinos on foot and enjoy your first taste of Uganda’s wildlife. Continue to Murchison and check into your lodge along the Nile. Dinner and overnight in the park.

Day 3: Game Drive and Nile Boat Safari in Murchison

This morning, you head out on a game drive across the northern plains, where elephants, giraffes, buffaloes, and lions are often spotted. After lunch, you take a boat cruise along the Nile to the base of the falls, with hippos, crocodiles, and abundant birdlife along the way. A short hike to the top of the falls reveals dramatic views before returning to your lodge for dinner and overnight.

Day 4: Transfer to Kibale Forest National Park

After breakfast, you drive southwest toward Kibale Forest. The scenic journey passes tea plantations, crater lakes, and fertile highlands. By evening, you arrive at your lodge near Kibale for dinner and overnight.

Day 5: Chimpanzee Tracking in Kibale – Bigodi Wetland Walk

The day begins with chimpanzee tracking in Kibale Forest. You spend an hour observing these intelligent primates in their natural habitat. In the afternoon, you visit Bigodi Wetland, a community conservation area known for its birdlife and primates. Dinner and overnight in Kibale.

Day 6: Transfer to Queen Elizabeth National Park – Evening Game Drive

After breakfast, you set off for Queen Elizabeth National Park. On arrival, you enjoy an evening game drive across the Kasenyi plains, with elephants, lions, and antelopes roaming the savannah. Dinner and overnight at your lodge in the park.

Day 7: Game Drive and Kazinga Channel Boat Cruise

The morning begins with a sunrise game drive, often the best time to spot predators. In the afternoon, you take a boat cruise on the Kazinga Channel, where hippos, crocodiles, elephants, and birds can be photographed at close range. Dinner and overnight in the park.

Day 8: Drive to Bwindi via Ishasha – Tree-Climbing Lions

After breakfast, you travel south through the Ishasha sector, famous for its tree-climbing lions. With luck, you’ll see them lounging in fig trees before continuing into the highlands of Bwindi. Dinner and overnight at your lodge near the forest.

Day 9: Gorilla Trekking in Bwindi

After breakfast, you report for a ranger briefing before trekking into the dense jungle of Bwindi. The trek is challenging but immensely rewarding as you spend an unforgettable hour with a gorilla family. Return to your lodge for lunch and relaxation. Dinner and overnight in Bwindi.

Day 10: Transfer to Lake Bunyonyi – Leisure

Today you drive to Lake Bunyonyi, a peaceful haven surrounded by terraced hills and dotted with 29 islands. The afternoon is free for canoe rides, swimming, or simply relaxing by the lakeshore. Dinner and overnight at your lodge on the lake.

Day 11: Cross into Rwanda – Drive to Volcanoes National Park

After breakfast, you cross into Rwanda through Cyanika or Katuna border. By midday, you arrive in Musanze, the gateway to Volcanoes National Park. The evening is spent relaxing at your lodge with views of the Virunga volcanoes. Dinner and overnight in Volcanoes.

Day 12: Golden Monkey Tracking in Volcanoes National Park

This morning, you head into the bamboo forests of Volcanoes National Park for golden monkey tracking. These playful and colorful primates are delightful to watch and photograph. In the afternoon, you may visit the Iby’Iwacu cultural village for Rwandan dance, music, and traditions. Dinner and overnight at your lodge.

Day 13: Transfer to Lake Kivu – Relaxation

After breakfast, you transfer to Lake Kivu, one of Africa’s great lakes. On arrival, you check into your lakeside resort. The afternoon is free for relaxation, boat rides, or swimming. Dinner and overnight at Lake Kivu.

Day 14: Transfer to Kigali – City Tour – Departure

After breakfast, you drive to Kigali, Rwanda’s capital. Depending on your flight time, you may enjoy a city tour that includes the Kigali Genocide Memorial, art galleries, and craft markets. Later, you are transferred to the airport for your departure, marking the end of your East African journey.
