Detailed Itinerary —14 Days Uganda & Rwanda Photography Safari

Day 1: Arrival in Entebbe – Evening Photography by Lake Victoria

You arrive at Entebbe International Airport, where your driver-guide welcomes you and transfers you to your hotel. Depending on arrival time, you may enjoy an evening shoot along Lake Victoria, capturing sunset light and birdlife. Dinner and overnight in Entebbe.

Day 2: Drive to Murchison Falls via Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary

After breakfast, you travel north to Murchison Falls National Park. Along the way, you stop at Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary for up-close rhino photography on foot. By evening, you arrive in Murchison and settle into your lodge along the Nile. Dinner and overnight in the park.

Day 3: Game Drive and Nile Boat Cruise – Top of the Falls Photography

The day begins with a sunrise game drive across the park’s northern plains, with golden morning light illuminating elephants, giraffes, and lions. In the afternoon, you take a boat cruise along the Nile to the base of Murchison Falls, capturing hippos, crocodiles, and birds. A short hike to the top of the falls offers dramatic wide-angle shots of the Nile squeezing through a narrow gorge. Dinner and overnight at your lodge.

Day 4: Transfer to Kibale Forest National Park

After breakfast, you set off on a scenic drive southwest to Kibale Forest. Along the way, you stop for landscape photography of crater lakes and rolling hills. Dinner and overnight at your lodge near Kibale.

Day 5: Chimpanzee Tracking – Bigodi Wetland Photography

This morning, you track chimpanzees in Kibale Forest. Their fast movements challenge your skills, but the chance to capture their expressions and interactions is rewarding. In the afternoon, you explore Bigodi Wetland, photographing great blue turacos, colobus monkeys, and papyrus landscapes. Dinner and overnight in Kibale.

Day 6: Transfer to Queen Elizabeth – Evening Game Drive

After breakfast, you drive to Queen Elizabeth National Park, with scenic stops along the way. In the evening, you enjoy a game drive across the Kasenyi plains, with opportunities to photograph elephants and antelope herds against sunset backdrops. Dinner and overnight in the park.

Day 7: Game Drive and Kazinga Channel Boat Cruise

Your morning begins with a sunrise game drive, ideal for capturing predators in golden light. After lunch, you take a boat cruise along the Kazinga Channel, photographing hippos, elephants, crocodiles, and water birds at close range. Dinner and overnight at your lodge.

Day 8: Drive to Bwindi via Ishasha – Tree-Climbing Lions

Today you head south through the Ishasha sector, famous for its tree-climbing lions. If you’re lucky, you’ll capture them resting in fig trees. Continue into Bwindi’s misty highlands, where you check into your forest lodge. Dinner and overnight in Bwindi.

Day 9: Gorilla Trekking in Bwindi

This morning, you embark on your gorilla trek. The jungle atmosphere, with shafts of light filtering through the mist, creates dramatic photographic conditions. Spending an hour with a gorilla family allows for unforgettable close-up portraits of silverbacks, mothers, and playful young. After the trek, you return to your lodge for relaxation. Day 10: Transfer to Lake Bunyonyi – Landscape and Community Photography

After breakfast, you drive to Lake Bunyonyi, a photogenic destination with 29 islands scattered across calm waters. The afternoon is free for boat rides, capturing reflections, island views, and village life. Dinner and overnight at a lakeside lodge.

Day 11: Cross into Rwanda – Transfer to Volcanoes National Park

This morning, you cross into Rwanda and drive to Volcanoes National Park. The dramatic Virunga volcanoes dominate the skyline, offering endless landscape photography opportunities. Dinner and overnight at your lodge in Musanze.

Day 12: Golden Monkey Tracking – Transfer to Lake Kivu

Today, you track golden monkeys in the bamboo forests of Volcanoes. These playful primates are a delight to photograph as they leap through the trees. In the afternoon, you transfer to Lake Kivu, where sunset over the water makes for breathtaking images. Dinner and overnight by the lake.

Day 13: Lake Kivu Exploration – Transfer to Kigali

This day begins with relaxed photography along Lake Kivu’s shores, capturing fishermen, birds, and panoramic lake views. Later, you transfer to Kigali. Dinner and overnight in Rwanda’s capital.

Day 14: Kigali City Tour – Departure

Your final day includes a guided city tour of Kigali, with opportunities for street and cultural photography. You visit the Kigali Genocide Memorial, craft markets, and vibrant neighborhoods before being transferred to the airport for your departure.
