Detailed Itinerary —6 Days Rwanda Volcanoes & Lake Kivu Adventure

Day 1: Arrival in Kigali – City Tour – Transfer to Volcanoes

On arrival at Kigali International Airport, you are welcomed by your driver-guide. Depending on your flight time, you may enjoy a Kigali city tour, visiting landmarks such as the Kigali Genocide Memorial and colorful local markets. You then drive north through Rwanda’s rolling green hills to Musanze, the gateway to Volcanoes National Park. Dinner and overnight at a lodge near the park.

Day 2: Gorilla Trekking in Volcanoes National Park

After an early breakfast, you head to the park headquarters for a ranger briefing. Guided by trackers, you hike through bamboo forests until you meet your gorilla family. The experience of spending an hour with these gentle giants is one of the most moving wildlife encounters in the world. You return to your lodge for lunch and an afternoon of relaxation. Dinner and overnight at the lodge.

Day 3: Golden Monkey Tracking – Cultural Experience

This morning, you return to Volcanoes National Park to track golden monkeys in the bamboo zones. These agile and playful primates are a delight to watch, often moving in large groups. After the trek, you can enjoy an optional cultural visit to the Iby’Iwacu cultural village, where music, dance, and storytelling bring Rwanda’s traditions to life. Day 4: Transfer to Lake Kivu – Sunset Leisure

Day 5: Full Day at Lake Kivu – Optional Activities

Day 6: Return to Kigali – Departure

After breakfast, you enjoy a final morning by the lake before driving back to Kigali. Depending on your flight time, you may shop for crafts or enjoy a short city tour before being transferred to Kigali International Airport for departure.
