Detailed Itinerary —7-Day Kenya Big Five Safari

Day 1: Arrival in Nairobi – Transfer to Amboseli National Park

Arrive in Nairobi and meet your driver-guide before heading south to Amboseli National Park. After lunch and some relaxation, enjoy your first afternoon game drive, focusing on Amboseli’s famous elephant herds and buffalo. Dinner and overnight at your lodge with Kilimanjaro views.

Day 2: Full-Day Game Drives in Amboseli

Spend a full day exploring Amboseli with morning and afternoon game drives. Look out for lions, cheetahs, and leopards that roam the open plains, alongside vast herds of elephants. Between drives, relax at your lodge and enjoy the mountain backdrop. Overnight in Amboseli.

Day 3: Amboseli – Transfer to Lake Nakuru National Park

After breakfast, depart Amboseli and drive via the Great Rift Valley escarpment to Lake Nakuru National Park. Arrive for lunch, then set out on an afternoon game drive. Nakuru is best known for its rhino sanctuary, making it one of the best places in Kenya to spot black and white rhinos. Lions, leopards, and buffalo are also common here. Dinner and overnight at a lodge overlooking the lake.

Day 4: Lake Nakuru – Transfer to Maasai Mara & Afternoon Game Drive

After breakfast, drive across the Rift Valley plains to the Maasai Mara. Arrive for lunch and check into your luxury tented camp or lodge. In the afternoon, head out for your first Mara game drive, keeping watch for lions, elephants, and large herds of antelopes. Return for dinner and overnight in the Mara.

Day 5: Full-Day Big Five Safari in Maasai Mara

Spend the day on a full-day game drive across the Mara’s endless plains. The Maasai Mara is home to all of the Big Five and offers excellent chances of spotting leopards and lions in action. If visiting between July and October, you may also witness the Great Migration river crossings. A picnic lunch will be enjoyed in the bush before returning for a sundowner and dinner at your camp.

Day 6: Morning & Afternoon Game Drives in Maasai Mara

Today you’ll enjoy two game drives—one in the morning and one in the afternoon—focusing again on the Big Five and other unique sightings. Early mornings are perfect for catching predators hunting, while evenings bring softer light for stunning photography. Overnight at your Mara lodge or tented camp.

Day 7: Morning Game Drive – Return to Nairobi

Enjoy a final sunrise game drive in the Mara before breakfast. After check-out, drive back to Nairobi, arriving in the afternoon. Transfer to the airport for your onward flight, marking the end of your Big Five safari adventure.
