Detailed Itinerary —7 Days Tanzania Birding Safari

Day 1: Arrival in Arusha

Arrive at Kilimanjaro International Airport where you’ll be met by your guide and transferred to your hotel in Arusha. Depending on arrival time, enjoy light birding in the hotel gardens where sunbirds, weavers, and hoopoes are often spotted. Overnight in Arusha.

Day 2: Arusha – Transfer to Tarangire National Park

Drive to Tarangire National Park, home to over 550 bird species. Key sightings include yellow-collared lovebirds, red-and-yellow barbets, and the endemic Ashy starling. Afternoon birding game drive also brings encounters with elephants and giraffes. Overnight at a Tarangire lodge.

Day 3: Full-Day Birding in Tarangire

Spend the day in Tarangire with morning and afternoon birding drives. Explore swampy areas for herons, spoonbills, and African jacanas, while baobab-dotted woodlands host hornbills, starlings, and raptors. Overnight at your Tarangire lodge.

Day 4: Tarangire – Transfer to Lake Manyara National Park

After breakfast, drive to Lake Manyara National Park, famous for its flocks of flamingos and over 400 bird species. Look out for pelicans, storks, and kingfishers along the lake, plus woodland species like crowned hornbills and Narina trogons. Overnight near Lake Manyara.

Day 5: Lake Manyara – Transfer to Serengeti National Park

Day 7: Serengeti – Transfer to Ngorongoro Crater – Return to Arusha

After breakfast, drive to the Ngorongoro Crater and descend for a half-day birding safari. The crater lakes host flamingos, while grasslands are alive with lapwings, bustards, and crowned cranes. After a picnic lunch, ascend and return to Arusha for your onward journey.
