Detailed Itinerary —7 Days Kenya Highlands & Safari

Day 1: Arrival in Nairobi

Arrive in Nairobi where you will be met and transferred to your city hotel. Depending on your arrival time, you can enjoy a short city tour or simply relax after your journey. Dinner and overnight in Nairobi.

Day 2: Nairobi – Transfer to Aberdare National Park

After breakfast, depart Nairobi and drive to the cool, forested Aberdare ranges. Arrive at your lodge in time for lunch and settle in. In the afternoon, relax as you watch wildlife gather at the waterholes and saltlicks—commonly visited by elephants, buffalo, and bushbucks. Dinner and overnight in the Aberdares.

Day 3: Aberdare – Transfer to Mount Kenya National Park

After breakfast, continue to Mount Kenya National Park, home to Africa’s second-highest peak. Enjoy guided forest walks and birdwatching, with chances to see colobus monkeys, forest elephants, and rare bongo antelopes. Optional activities include cultural visits to nearby villages or farm tours of tea and coffee plantations. Overnight at a lodge overlooking the mountain.

Day 4: Mount Kenya – Transfer to Lake Nakuru National Park

After breakfast, descend from the highlands into the Great Rift Valley, arriving at Lake Nakuru National Park. Enjoy lunch at your lodge before heading out for an afternoon game drive. The park is famed for its flamingos, pelicans, and over 450 bird species, as well as rhinos, lions, and giraffes. Dinner and overnight by the lake.

Day 5: Lake Nakuru – Transfer to Maasai Mara & Afternoon Game Drive

After breakfast, depart Lake Nakuru for the Maasai Mara. Arrive in time for lunch and check into your luxury lodge or tented camp. In the afternoon, enjoy your first game drive across the vast plains, where elephants, lions, and wildebeest can often be seen in abundance. Return for dinner and overnight in the Mara.

Day 6: Full-Day Game Drive in Maasai Mara

Spend the day exploring the Maasai Mara with morning and afternoon game drives. Look out for the Big Five, cheetahs on the hunt, and hyenas roaming in packs. During the migration season (July–October), you may also witness dramatic river crossings as wildebeest and zebras move in search of greener pastures. Return for a sundowner and dinner at your lodge or camp.

Day 7: Morning Game Drive – Return to Nairobi

On your final morning, enjoy a sunrise game drive in the Mara, when the savannah comes alive with activity. After breakfast, depart for Nairobi, arriving in the afternoon. Transfer to the airport for your onward flight, marking the end of your highlands and safari adventure.
